The bottom screws off and there is a gasket. The glass jar ones (at least the one's I've had) are never one piece. It doesn't leak into the coupler, it leaks down the edge of the base. It's almost like it's the "way you place it on the base" that determines whether or not it will leak. I don't understand why the leaking is so intermittent. I'm still using this pitcher because I use my blender one to two times daily and yesterday I used it twice, there was ZERO leaking both times. That's when I called and got the ONE PIECE BPA free pitcher shown in the pic that's lasted a while before ultimately starting to leak again. There was no wear on these they were brand new. The next blade assembly replacement for the glass pitcher was exactly the same and leaked 90 % of the time. It still leaked (not every single time, but most of the time). I tried EVERYTHING on both blade assembly's making sure it was tightly sealed, no gaps, reversed the gasket - everything was snug. On the glass pitchers (which my blender originally came with) it was a blade assembly that screwed off the bottom. I remember when Waring still sold blenders with non-removable blades, then there was the little clip out blade assembly with washers to prevent leaks and finally, well into the 70s, they began offering blenders with screw off bases for the jars, but the construction was not like the Oster. Is KA sending you a whole new jar and blade assembly or just the jar? This is interesting. Is the gasket part of the blade assembly or a separate ring like in an Osterizer? You have checked the smoothness of the bottom of the jar by running your finger along the edge that meets the gasket? If that edge is smooth, have you examined the gasket with a bright LED flashlight or work light to see that there are no imperfections in the sealing surface of the gasket? If the gasket is removable, you have tried turning it over? If it is possible, have you tried soaking the gasket in very hot water to soften it before you assemble the jar and blade assembly? With daily use, the gasket might be getting less flexible than it was when new after 6 years and you might be due for a new one. I've checked and everything feels super tight. It's just so weird that one day it will leak, the next day it won't leak a drop. Still, it was really great of them to send me a new one. I'm hoping they have redesigned the new pitchers but I'm not holding my breath. I wash/dry it by hand before putting it back on the base. I finally called Kitchenaid and I can't believe they are sending me a new pitcher for free! I've been so careful with it. I've dealt with on/off leaks with it for a while now. So they sent me a new BPA free plastic pitcher. It leaked too! I was looking at pics on Amazon and wondered if the plastic BPA free pitchers would fit my blender. So I called Kitchenaid back then, they sent me a new blade assembly. It came with a glass pitcher with the blade assembly that unscrewed from the bottom of the pitcher. I honestly can't remember when I got this blender.
